HANNIBAL COUNTRY CLUB GOLF PRO JEFFREY KENT

The Hannibal Country Club’s golf professional, Jeffrey S. Kent, came to Hannibal with a very impressive background. A Class A PGA professional, Jeff started playing golf at age 3. His grandfather was an accomplished amateur player. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Jeff moved to the Chicago area where he attended high school. He played golf in high school and college, Illinois State University. “I played some competitive golf after college,” he said, “but mostly I played club golf.”

His first job was assistant pro at the Naperville Country Club, where he met the golf chairman of Butler National Golf Club (Oak Brook, IL), who was also a member at Naperville. “Nine months later, I was assistant pro at Butler National,” he said. He was assistant pro at Butler during the years the club hosted the Western Open.

From Butler, Jeff went to Royal Fox in St. Charles, IL, a new private club. From there he was Director of Golf at Geneva National in Lake Geneva, WI, an upscale 54-hole private and resort club hosting 75,000 rounds of golf a year. The facility is owned by members of Butler National. “We built one of the courses there,” he said. After leaving Geneva, he taught for 10 years at Bolingbrook Golf Club, southwest of Chicago.

Jeff’s golf events are well-attended and enjoyed by all the golfers at the Club. “I’m always adding new events,” Jeff said. “It’s wonderful to see how much the club is growing, and that we are getting more active members who want to play better golf. The more members enjoy their club, the better it is.”

He instituted a PAR Account (Player Appreciation Reward), to give members an incentive to better their golf.  Details are available in the Pro Shop. Jeff is offering lessons for $30 per half hour; $50 an hour. Sign up for a group of five and one is free. The Club now offers a Golf Video Playback System or JC Video Golf Motion Analysis which is a state-of-the-art video/computer system that helps golfers improve their game.

He enjoys working with juniors as well as adults. His annual Kids Klub Golf is a three-week program for children ages 3 through 18. This instructional program offers basics of the sport, including driving, chipping, putting and etiquette of the game. All participants play in the Club Championships following the camp. “It’s important to have an extensive Junior Program,” he said. “These players make great members later.”
